The Health Sciences and Technology Academy (HSTA) is accepting applications. There are limited vacancies available at this time.
The mission of HSTA is to increase the number of underrepresented students in WV who attend and complete college, pursue degrees in Health Sciences and STEM majors, thereby increasing the numbers in the STEM and healthcare workforce in the communities of West Virginia.
Candidates must:
1. Be a current a 9th grader at the beginning of the School Term 2025-2026.
2. Be a United States citizen
3. Be a WV resident
4. Meet GPA requirements
5. Meet program criteria
6. Have an interest in Health Sciences and/or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

*All students are welcome to apply and do not need to meet all criteria.
The four criteria for admission are as follows:
- Underrepresented minority groups as determined by federal guidelines
- Low Income (see guideline information below)
- First Generation College (neither parent is a four year college graduate, i.e. neither parent has a Bachelor's degree or higher)
- Students living in Rural Areas
Note: Students must be working on grade level, i.e. if a student is in the 8th grade, they must be able to complete 8th grade level work or higher.

(Family of 3) $47,767.00 or less
(Family of 4) $57,720.00 or less
(Family of 5) $67,673.00 or less
(Family of 6) $77,626.00 or less
(Family of 7) $87,579.00 or less
(Family of 8) $97,532.00 or less
For each additional family member add $9,953.00
If "Low Income" you may be asked to submit one of the following:
1. Two most current pay stubs
2. Tax returns
3. W-2
4. A letter from the DHHR stating you are currently receiving program assistance

In order to complete the application you will need:
1. Parent/Guardian
2. Current GPA
3. Copy of Grade Card
4. WVEIS Number (i.e. lunch number or student number)
5. Student will be asked to complete one essay question: What career are you interested in and why? No more than 250 words and no personal information, i.e. name or high school name.
